Congo River. Arts of Central Africa. From the Collection of the Musée du Quai Branly, Paris

The display will show more than 140 arts and crafts objects created by the inhabitants of present-day Gabon, Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sculptures, masks and objects of spiritual value will, on one hand, show visitors the variety of cultures and traditions amongst the inhabitants of the Congo river valley, and on the other hand, their common character.

The display will be located in the halls of the 19th and 20th century European and American Art Gallery. This means that the visitors will have a chance to get to know African art and at the same time, see artworks by the artists (André Derain, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse) who have found their inspiration in the works of the anonymous masters of various tribes, inhabiting the Congo river valley –– under a new perspective.
