Services for visitors

The museum does not have its own parking lot. Parking is available along nearby streets in a municipal paid parking area, and it is generally free of charge on Sundays and holidays. The nearest municipal parking for tour buses is located on Prechistenskaya Naberezhnaya (in front of 15 Volkhonka Street). Please refer to parking.mos.ru for parking fees and maps.

The museum does not yet have its own bicycle parking facility. You can park your bicycle or scooter in one of the city free parking spaces next to the Museum. You can see where to find them on the map.

It is not permitted to enter the exhibition halls wearing overcoats or carrying items larger than 30×40×20 cm, including backpacks. Free cloakrooms and lockers are available in all museum buildings. There is a separate cloakroom for groups of children in the Main Building. During cold weather, you may need to wait in line to leave your items in the cloakroom on weekends and holidays. Please keep this in mind when planning your visit. There is no wait to retrieve your items. To avoid confusion, separate cloakroom tickets are issued for each coat or jacket. 

Lockers are intended for bags, backpacks, umbrellas, food, drinks, and other items that are not permitted in the exhibition halls. Each locker is 25×40×40 cm. There is no dedicated area for suitcases or other large bulky items. It is not recommended for visitors to bring any big items to the museum. Please note that all backpacks larger than 30×40×20 cm must be left in the cloakroom in order to ensure the safety of museum exhibits. If visitors would like to take valuable items from their backpacks with them, they can obtain a free bag from the cloakroom attendant or at the information desk.

Any questions about museum visits can be directed to the information desk staff in the Main Building, the Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art, and the Mouseion Center for Aesthetic Education. The information desks are located in the central foyers of each building, and they operate during the opening hours of the museum.

Rental audio guides
Inside the museum you can use an audio guide provided on a separate device. The fee for audio guide rental is 450 rubles. Payment can be made in cash (rubles) or by Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, and MIR cards. The audio guide rental desks are located on the ground floor of the Main Building next to the café in the foyer and near the museum shop in the Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art. The rental desks follow the same schedule as the museum. Audio guides will stop being issued 1 hour before the museum closing time. Audio tours describing the permanent exhibition are available in Russian, English, German, French, Italian, and Chinese (encompassing 250+ works in the Main Building and 150 masterpieces displayed in the Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art). Russian and English versions are available for temporary exhibitions. The audio guides are provided by the Delia company, a partner of the museum.

The museum permits amateur photography and video filming in the permanent exhibit halls without the use of flash equipment, tripods or monopods (selfie sticks). Photography and filming at temporary exhibitions may be restricted or completely prohibited in accordance with the requirements of the museums or individuals that have provided art objects from their art collections. Please pay attention to signs prohibiting photos/videos at the entrance to the exhibition halls or near specific exhibits.

Any photo shoot (wedding, costume, staging, fashion, etc.) without an Agreement with the Museum is prohibited. You can read about the differences between amateur and professional shooting in the Rules of visiting the Museum. If you would like to have a professional or commercial staged photography session in the Museum, send your request to lana.dmitrieva@arts-museum.ru.

The museum operates a free Wi-Fi network called Museum_free. SMS registration is required to connect to the network. Please note that the network does not cover all museum halls.

Cafés operate in all museum buildings. They serve hot meals, salads, desserts, coffee, and other drinks. Payment can be made in cash (rubles) or by cards. The purchase of a museum ticket is not required in order to visit a café.

Museum shops offer collection catalogs, exhibition leaflets and other art books, albums for children, stationery, and souvenir items. The shop in the Mouseion Center for Aesthetic Education has a wide selection of children’s literature, including publications authored by research associates of the museum. Museum shop locations: Main Building, foyer on the ground floor; Main Building, Italian courtyard; Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art, foyer on the ground floor; Mouseion Center for Aesthetic Education, foyer on the first floor. The shops close 15 minutes before the museum closing time. All museum shops accept payments in cash (rubles) or by cards. The purchase of a museum ticket is not required in order to visit any of the shops (with the exception of the shop in the Italian courtyard).

If you are visiting with children, you can borrow a stroller for your visit: your kid will be less tired, and you will be able to walk around exhibition rooms as long as you want. If you require a stroller, you are welcome to ask a staff member at the Information Desk on the day of your visit (the number of strollers is limited).
